AGAINST THE GRAIN: COFFEE TABLE
This coffee table is a part of the Vernacular furniture collection. It is designed with the same principles as the bench with traditional aspects of joinery (see on profile). Country homes were generally small with not enough interior space and for this reason, furniture pieces were made to be multi-functional to allow more walking space within the home which is a factor that inspired me to make this coffee table. This coffee table has two bases: the top surface and the bottom surface. The bottom surface has two removable panels to allow leg room and the table can be used as a floor table, accessible for children and for those who like to sit on the floor in a Japanese style.
